The Orthodox Rosary — A Three‑Session Teaching

A meditative path of rhythm, breath, and sacred repetition

Welcome to this gentle Orthodox rosary teaching — a three‑session introduction to the chotki, a contemplative practice rooted in rhythm, breath, and sacred repetition. Through simple gestures and guided meditations, you will discover how the rosary supports inner stillness, grounding, and quiet presence., a contemplative practice rooted in rhythm, breath, and sacred repetition. Through simple gestures and guided meditations, you will discover how the rosary supports inner stillness, grounding, and quiet presence.

Rooted in the hesychast tradition, the rosary is not a devotional object but a tool of presence. Its soft wool beads guide the breath, calm the mind, and open the heart to a quiet, steady prayer.

This three‑session teaching invites you to discover the rosary as a meditative companion, accessible to all, regardless of background or tradition.

Origins, symbolism, breath & touch

In this first session, you will explore:

  • the origins of the chotki / komboskini
  • the meaning of the wool, the knots, and the cross
  • how to hold the rosary with ease and softness
  • how breath and touch work together
  • how the rosary supports inner stillness
We close with a short guided practice to feel the rhythm of the beads in your hands.

The gesture, the phrase, and the movement of the heart

This session deepens the meditative dimension of the rosary:

  • the simple phrase traditionally used
  • how repetition calms the mind
  • how to welcome thoughts without tension
  • how to synchronize breath, gesture, and inner attention
  • how the rosary becomes a path of stability
We end with a guided practice to anchor the rhythm in your body.

Embodied prayer & creating your personal ritual

In this final session, you will learn:

  • how to pray with the whole body
  • how to cultivate inner silence through the rosary
  • how to create a personal ritual at home
  • how to integrate the practice into daily life
  • how the rosary supports emotional grounding and clarity
We close with a longer guided practice, allowing you to experience the rosary as a living, breathing companion.
